With its year by year more than 3000 listeners the traditional New Year’s Eve concert at the organ of Dresden’s Church of Holy Cross is one of the most popular of its kind. Also at the last day of a year, there can be found waiting crowds
at the entrance of Saxony’s biggest church, which during an advent and Christmas season with its rich and various performances and presentations usually attracts around 50 000 visitors. This CD contains the live recording of the 2005 New Year’s Eve concert with solemn music for four trumpets, timpani and organ, spanning from popular compositions of the well known German baroque composers Bach, Handel and Telemann to the music of the French Charpentier and Widor. The huge Jehmlich organ of Dresden’s church of Holy Cross here appears once more as a multifaceted universal instrument. Thus, this CD gives an impression of a concert evening full of atmosphere.
